Child-centred play therapy on the Mornington Peninsula
CONNECT. PLAY. GROW.
Welcome to
WE Play Therapy
I’m Jenna, the face behind We Play Therapy. I’m a proud mum of two daughters, experienced teacher, child-centred play therapist and strong advocate for children’s mental health and wellbeing.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step — for children and for families. I want you to know that this is a safe, supportive space where your child can express themselves freely through play, in their own way and at their own pace.
Child-Centred Play Therapy is based on the understanding that play is a child’s natural language. Through play, children can explore emotions, process experiences, and build confidence and resilience.
My role as a play therapist is to create a trusting relationship with your child and follow their lead, without directing or judging. This approach allows your child to feel truly seen, heard, and valued, and helps them work through challenges in a way that feels safe and empowering.
WHAT IS PLAY THERAPY?
Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to support children aged 2–12 years.
Just as adults use words to express thoughts and emotions in talk-based therapy, children use play—their natural language—to communicate and process their experiences.
My role is to step into the child’s world, understanding their perspective and experiences without judgement. This empathetic stance helps build trust and facilitates healing and growth.
How CCPT Helps…
Through play and connection, I use proven techniques to:
- Support the child’s emotional expression and self-understanding
- Validate their experiences and strengthen their self-esteem
- Help them process difficult emotions and life events
- Guide them toward healthier behaviours and coping strategies
Why It Works…
CCPT is developmentally responsive, meaning it meets children right where they are.
It honours their feelings, respects their pace, and empowers them to grow in ways that feel safe and natural.
IN CCPT, CHILDREN CAN…
- Develop a more positive self-concept
- Assume greater self-responsibility
- Become more self-directing
- Become more self-accepting
- Become more self – reliant
- Engage in self-determined decision making
- Experience a feeling of control
- Become sensitive to the process of coping
- Develop an internal source of evaluation
- Become more trusting of themselves
